Dialogue in Action: Turks and Kurds of Anatolia
March 28, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pmFree
We are calling on Kurds and Turks to participate in a groundbreaking video project, The Lens, in San Francisco.
The Lens is a unique and groundbreaking social and artistic experiment. It is a workshop and video series that uses drama therapy, expressive arts and other experiential methods, to transform collective trauma and group discord resulting from intercultural conflicts locally and internationally.
The workshop and video series also extends to conflicts in the workplace as well as in the local and national arenas. The Lens’ approach is adapted by Armand Volkas from his Healing the Wounds of History method to get to the heart of conflicts by purposefully bringing together rival groups from opposing sides of an issue or historical trauma.
Through the therapeutic use of drama, the groups take on the challenge of reinventing their relationship by transforming destructive and dysfunctional group actions into cooperation and life-affirming new narratives.
Every month in San Francisco The Lens team and the Kurdish and Turkish dialogue workshop participants come together. These two groups meet in preparation for the video filming of a Turkish and Kurdish encounter that will take place in early summer.
